Excerpts is a literary journal dedicated to the relationship between reading and creation. We publish original writing inspired by the books, authors, passages, and literary traditions that shape artistic lives.

Through poetry, fiction, essays, criticism, and hybrid work, the journal explores influence, inheritance, memory, and literary conversation.

Volume I Theme: Inheritance

Pieces about literary lineage, influence, and artistic becoming.

We’re looking for writing inspired by books, authors, passages, and literary traditions that have influenced your creative or intellectual life.

What have you read recently that stayed with you?

What language changed the way you think?

What story sharpened your voice?

What writer made you return to the page differently?

We welcome:

Each submission should include a brief note naming the literary work, writer, or text that inspired the piece.
